Pleasures of Small Motions: Mastering the Mental Game of Pocket Billiards

by: Bob Fancher Ph.D., Robert T Fancher
I thought this book was fantastic and I don't even play pool. My game is table shuffleboard but "Pleasures of Small Motions" applies to just about any competitive sport. The author presents a convincing argument why players who only play to win, will never be winners. The trick is in the "pleasure of small motions". This book not only improved my game, it has given me a new attitude towards the game as well as the competition. If you play shuffleboard, pool, or any other game, this book is an absolute must.

The Science of Pocket Billiards

by: Jack H. Koehler
I found this book very helpful! It's easy to understand, and has a large variety of both exercises and practice drills. It's clearly written and not so long as to be daunting to get through.

The Bank Shot and Other Great Robberies: The Uncrowned Champion of Pocket Billiards Describes His Game and How It's Played

by: Minnesota Fats, Tom Fox
A very fun book to read. Does not have as much instruction on how to make killer shots as I would have hoped, but still a great book. Just remember to keep your tongue firmly in your cheek as you read about the Fat Man's adventures.

Willie Mosconi On Pocket Billiards: The Classic Book on the Game by the Legendary "King" of Pocket Billiards (Little Sports Library)

by: Willie Mosconi
When I went away to college in 1985, my girlfriend's father gave me a copy of the then-current edition of this book. I'd played a lot of pool before, but this book changed my game from mediocre to excellent, which is why I recently bought a new copy to give to a friend who is just learning the game. The tips on holding the cue stick alone made a difference in my game; when I spent the time to practice the other principles Mosconi discusses, I began to win more often than not, and could honestly say, "I meant to do that," when I'd just made a particularly difficult shot.
